Driving through a cemetery wasn’t exactly what I thought I would do on my way to a fashion boutique. But as I held my breath as I sped pass the headstones (as the superstition requires), Canton Street transformed from graveyard to stylish downtown Roswell. Hip lounges sit cattycorner to antique shops where the old meets the new on tree-lined drives. The Fowler House, the oldest home in Roswell, sits on Canton Street, and is now the new home of Estella clothing boutique.
Walking up the gravel drive, (heals were a bad decision), I immediately felt at ease when I reached the southern charm of Estella’s front porch. A knowledgeable and friendly sales girl greeted me upon entry and proceeded to give me a tour of the three rooms that hold the treasures that Estella has to offer. My favorite room, the main room, is filled with stylish contemporary duds that would make you the envy of even the most high- brow fashionista. I found tops and dresses made of light fabrics with beading and eyelet details, which give an air of causal sophistication. When I think “boutique,” I think of $200 camisoles, but not at Estella, where the prices in the main room stayed at an affordable range of $30 to $150.
The children’s area and shabby chic room were next, and both met my expectations. Although the pickings were a little slim, what wasn’t there in quantity was made up by quality. Runway worn and one-of-a-kind looks from YSL, BCBG and Missoni, including handbags and clothing, are presented in the shabby chic room. Stepping over into a sun room decorated in bright colors, the children’s area is stocked with super cute outfits that you wouldn’t be able to find at a department store. If you have the means to spend more than $250, you receive a free style session with Tameka Raymond, the celebrity stylist owner.
If affordability, exclusivity, uniqueness and a free style consultation aren’t enough to draw you out to Estella, then knowing that 20 percent of your purchase goes directly to the Lost Ones Foundation might change your mind. Raymond is actively involved in the foundation that provides five-day retreats to troubled young women to “inspire, mentor and aid” through confidence boosting workshops. In past years, Estella’s donations have sent an additional 20 to 30 girls to the retreat, and that number is set to increase. Treat yourself to a head-turning new outfit and feel good that your purchase makes a difference to a young girl in need of direction.
Make the short drive and check out what all the fuss is about at Estella.
