Share Your Warmth with families supported by North Fulton Community Charities Fall is here and the winter months are fast approaching. For many families that are without winter clothing, this can be a challenge while waiting at the bus stop, waiting on public transportation or walking to school and work.
North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) is reaching out once again to the North Fulton community asking everyone to support their 2011 Warm Coat Drive. NFCC is collecting new and gently used coats and accessories for adults and children. Last year, they were able to provide over 300 families living in North Fulton with coats, jackets, scarves, mittens and caps for every member of the family. This year, they anticipate a greater need, as we enter the third winter of our country’s recession. For these families every day brings new challenges, new struggles and new disparities in job searching, government programs, and solutions to a frightening economy.
“We know that this economy has affected our entire community, but for families living in or on the edge of poverty, it has become more than a recession it is a depression," said Eden Purdy, family enrichment program director at NFCC. "Families are stressed and finances are tight. This past week, I met a 15-year-old girl who stood in line for six hours to ensure that her younger siblings would receive warm coats for the cold months ahead. When I asked her where her parents were, she said her mother was in prison for child abuse and her father was working two jobs to support the family.”
NFCC requests that you bring your new and gently used coats, jackets and accessories to the NFCC Holiday Distribution Site, 608 Holcomb Bridge Road (Commerce Parkway Entrance, lower level), in Roswell, on November 4th from 1-7 p.m. All donations will directly support families in need.
For those of you in the Cumming area, Points North will collect the coats and accessroies at their offices at 568 Peachtree Pkwy, Cumming, 30041, in the Parkway North office park across from South Forsyth H.S., and will transport them to the site for you on Nov. 4.
