
 Let the credits roll. Pack a picnic and bring a blanket for free flicks at Screen on the Green. Now in its seventh season, this much-anticipated summer film fest will project five classics onto a giant screen in the Meadow of Piedmont Park. Sponsored by Turner Broadcasting System, shows start at sunset every Thursday this month. The schedule is as follows: “A Hard Day’s Night” on June 1, “The Wiz” on June 8, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on June 15, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” on June 22, and “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” on June 29. And that last one is the classic 1971 version starring Gene Wilder.  Ride the river. Every year, one of the biggest music festivals of the summer starts a rockin’ along the Tennessee River at Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga. Only a two-hour ride up Interstate 75 and you’re there with country legends Hank Williams Jr. (June 9), Trisha Yearwood (June 16), Atlanta-based trio Sugarland (June 15) and Georgia’s own The Allman Brothers Band (June 17). From June 9 to 17, five stages carry the weight of more than 100 performers in all music genres.Tickets are $27 in advance and $36 at the gate and cover all nine nights.  Support your local movie scene. Whether you fancy yourself an amateur film critic or just a plain old movie lover, you won’t want to miss the 2006 IMAGE Film Awards Gala on Wednesday, June 7. The event, which will be held in the Egyptian Ballroom at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, acknowledges individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the film industry in the Southeast either on a local or national level. The gala is the largest annual fundraiser for IMAGE Film & Video Center, which presents educational programs and several film festivals throughout the year, including the popular Atlanta Film Festival.  Get into the act. Revenge and murder are afoot. Ghosts are stirring and swords are clashing as “Hamlet” begins Georgia Shakespeare’s summer season. Director Jasson Minadakis gives this Shakespeare classic (showing June 7 through July 22) an edgy and fast-paced twist. The series lineup is always well produced, superbly acted, and guaranteed to please even the most casual Shakespeare fan. One of the Bard’s finest plays promises to fill every seat of the Conant Performing Arts Center, all 509 of them on the campus of Oglethorpe University. In rotating repertory with “Hamlet” is “Twelfth Night” on June 22 through July 21. The summer rounds out with “Treasure Island” July 5 through 22 and “Metamorphoses” July 27 through Aug. 20.
