Tune the tube. Grab that remote, pop some corn and tune into TNT’s original movie “The Ron Clark Story.” Starring Matthew Perry of “Friends” fame, this movie chronicles the inspirational true-life tale of an energetic and idealistic young North Carolina teacher who leaves his small hometown to teach in a New York City public school. His revolutionary teaching style not only inspires his students, but an entire nation. On a local level, Clark recently moved to Atlanta and will be launching the Ron Clark Academy for low-income, at-risk children this fall. (Don’t miss our feature on the real Ron Clark in next month’s issue.) The movie premieres on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.tnt.tv.

Cash in at Cabernet. Weekend specials are practically unheard of in the restaurant industry. Not so at Cabernet, the sophisticated steakhouse on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta. Chef Richard Holley offers a $35 prix fixe menu on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Save roughly $20 a person on an appetizer, entrée and dessert paired with a glass of wine. A sample dinner might feature bacon-wrapped scallops drizzled with a balsamic glaze for starters. Daintily sip the Dynamite Merlot from Sonoma, and then sink your teeth into a surf and turf combination like filet mignon and mahi mahi in a mango curry sauce alongside sweet potatoes and asparagus. Top it all off with a generous slice of Napa Valley Cheesecake. For reservations, call 770-777-5955. Stay tuned for next month’s restaurant review.

Bicker with “Peachtree Battle.” Shame on you for not seeing Atlanta’s longest-running play. After all, this hilarious hit will celebrate five years of sold-out performances on Sept. 7. That’s 875 curtain calls, and Wes Reissing’s never missed a one. Turn to page 25 for a profile on this inspirational actor who battles an eccentric Buckhead family onstage and a debilitating illness off. As for the plot, see what ensues when the son of a socialite announces his engagement to a Hooters’ waitress. The show is such a success that playwrights John Gibson and Anthony Morris are putting the finishing touches on a screenplay to be shot later this year. Hello Hollywood! Starlets reportedly linked to the movie are Judi Dench and Jane Fonda. Show times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. The new ticket price is $26. For seats, call 404-875-1193 or visit www.ansleyparkplayhouse.com. Keep an eye out for
Gibson and Morris’ upcoming play “A Sunday Afternoon at Loehmann’s.”
