Come to the Table. Celebrate autumn with top Atlanta restaurants and wine producers from around the world at the fifth annual Harvest Midtown. Hike ’n Treat. This Halloween, take the kids for a non-scary adventure at the Chattahoochee Nature Center as “Halloween Hikes” returns. On October weekends 17 – 18 and 24 – 25, join in the fun for a guided night hike along lighted trails, where you’ll encounter friendly, nature-costumed characters such as Box Turtle and Big Mouth Bass. Afterwards, gather ’round the campfire, play games, create crafts, have your face painted or just enjoy the live music. Costumes encouraged! Tickets are $7 for all ages and free for children under 2. Meet the Muppet Man. Visit the Atlanta History Center for an exciting new exhibit, “Jim Henson’s Fantastic World.” Celebrating the life and works of the man behind the Muppets and other legendary characters, the exhibit features more than 100 original artworks, a display of creatures (including those from “Sesame Street” and “Fraggle Rock”), a collection of rare photographs, video productions, film props and an interactive activity center through Jan. 18, 2009. Hug a Pug. Head out to the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds for PugFest 2008, a fundraiser benefiting Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption, Inc. Approximately 700 of these loveable creatures make an appearance for the big day, which includes a costume contest, pug paraphernalia, professional pet pictures, pet grooming, a microchipping clinic and contests honoring pups in categories such as curliest tail, most wrinkles, best kisser and best trick. Get Artsy. Atlanta is touted as the “Arts & Culture Capital of the South” — so why not take advantage of it?
